Umair is an international development practitioner and researcher, with a diverse career portfolio in nonprofit management, social and labour compliance, information and communication technologies (ICTs) for development, peacemaking in conflict zones. He is trained as a management professional in subject matters like finance, information systems and sustainable entrepreneurship. However, his recent work has gravitated towards international development and policy interventions. As a researcher, Umair is a seasoned impact evaluator – a skill he honed during his postgraduate degree in International Development at University of Sussex. In the last 2-3 years, he provided his expertise on projects with agencies like UKAID, USAID and Development Alternatives Incorporated. Calm yet passionate, Umair’s roles have been challenging. He is versatile, and an equally excellent liaison for technical teams, research teams, and ICT-based intervention design teams (has led all research wings of different projects he has worked on). Since impact outreach has been his ambition, he is pursuing a doctoral degree in Public Policy, focusing on Social and Technology Policy – which would enable him to have roles with far-reaching impact, as in provincial and federal policy domains. Umair values social development for marginalized communities: poverty eradication, basic human rights, freedom of speech and religion.
