Welcome to the School of Public Affairs Office of Career Services! The School of Public Affairs places a high priority on developing employer and alumni relations, and providing career and professional development for our students seeking entry or transition in the field of public administration and policy. The Career Center is managed by a career professional who works closely with SPA students and faculty to maximize classroom and work-learning for direct application to current and future public management challenges.
What we do:
- Provide students with information on the variety of career possibilities with a Bachelor of Science in Public Service & Public Policy, Bachelor of Arts or Science in Urban & Metropolitan Studies, Master of Public Administration, Master of Public Policy, or Doctorate in Public Administration from the School of Public Affairs. Resources include printed materials, workshops and webinars, our website, and individual career coaching and referrals.
- Connect students and graduates with potential employers and alumni. We are reaching out to employers to increase the visibility of the School of Public Affairs, develop a recruiting program, and post work opportunities on our website. We partner with alumni to provide job search preparation and insight and host networking and mentoring events.
- Support students in creating a plan to achieve their career goals, develop skills to market themselves through effective resume and cover letters, creating an online presence, practice for interviews, and learning how to negotiate offers. Coach alumni in effectively navigating today's trends in managing their career.
