The 2008 Social Equity Leadership Conference brings together leaders in public administration and public policy from the academy, government, and the community.  In plenary sessions and panel discussions, participants will assess the current state of equity and examine ways to advance social justice equity in the United States. Sessions will be held in the Phoenix Downtown Campus of Arizona State University and the Phoenix Convention Center with accommodations at the adjacent Hyatt Regency Hotel. 

The conference program examines important social equity topics from a national and international perspective along with salient issues from the southwestern region and the Phoenix metropolitan area.  The major speakers scheduled for the conference next year include the following:

  • Raul Yzaguirre, former President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza; ASU Presidential Professor of Practice and Director of the ASU Center for Community Development and Civil Rights; and recipient of the Smithsonian Lifetime Achievement Award. 

  • Michael CrowPresident, Arizona State University, who has made access a central goal of the university

  • Frank FairbanksCity Manager, City of Phoenix, and recipient of National Public Service Award, presented by the American Society for Public Administration and the National Academy of Public Administration

  • H. George FredericksonEdwin O. Stene Distinguished Professor of Public Administration, University of Kansas

  • Anna Maria Chávez, Deputy Chief of Staff for Urban Relations and Community Development, Office of the Governor, State of Arizona
  • Harvey WhitePresident of the American Society for Public Administration and Associate Professor of Public and Urban Affairs and International Development, University of Pittsburgh

There will be a wide range of panel sessions addressing equity issues in education, health care, criminal justice, housing, environment, immigration, and income as well as the role of nonprofits in promoting equity. 

Proposals for presentations are welcome as well as descriptions of outstanding examples of public organizations that have developed ways to advance social equity.

In addition, applicable state and local taxes are applied to the room rate (which are currently 12.07%).  The group or function name for this receiving this rate is 7TH ANNUAL SOCIAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE.

RESERVATION METHOD
All reservations must be made individually through the Hotel's Reservation Department by calling (602) 252-1234, 800-233-1234. 

The cut off date is 1/24/2008.  This means that any reservation made after this date cannot be guaranteed at the $199 per night single room rate and room availability is not guaranteed.


REGISTERING FOR THE CONFERENCE

Fees for students are waived but students must still register for the conference. The deadline for registration is 10:00 a.m., February 4, 2008.
