Increasing demand for services and retiring baby boomers means tens of thousands of job opportunities. By fall of 2012, it is estimated that the federal government will hire nearly 273,000 new workers for mission-critical jobs—positions considered crucial by agencies to fulfill their essential obligations to the American people.

Looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of your community, country and world? Government employees can make a positive difference in the lives of their community and country, and they play a vital role in addressing challenging and pressing issues.

Low government pay is a myth. Government salaries are often competitive with the private sector, plus there are great benefits, job stability and opportunities for advancement.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness is a new program for federal student loan borrowers who work in certain kinds of jobs. It will forgive remaining debt after 10 years of eligible employment and qualifying loan payments. In addition, many public agencies offer employee tuition reimbursement programs so you can continue your education.

You don't have to live in D.C. to work for the federal government, nearly 85% of all federal jobs are located outside the D.C. area. More than 44,000 federal employees work abroad. And there are countless opportunities in every state, county, city and local government across the country.
