Senior Faculty Appointment and Director, Center for Urban Innovation
The Arizona State University School of Public Affairs invites nominations and applications for a senior tenure-track faculty position focusing on urban affairs and innovation. We seek active, entrepreneurial scholars with a desire to work collaboratively across disciplinary and sectoral lines to continue ASU’s leadership in urban affairs and its contribution to the Alliance for Innovation.
The ASU School of Public Affairs (SPA) is continuing a period of growth as a strategically important element in Arizona State University’s emergence as a “New American University.” The School enjoys a national reputation with a longstanding emphasis on urban governance; its programs in public administration and urban policy and management were recently ranked in the top ten nationally. SPA is unique for its embrace of both public administration and public policy in teaching and research. The ASU School of Public Affairs offers a Master of Public Policy, Master of Public Administration, and Doctorate in Public Administration as well as Bachelor’s degree programs in Urban and Metropolitan Studies and Public Service and Public Policy (PSPP). The Center for Urban Innovation conducts research and outreach programs on the governance, innovation, leadership, and values in local government.
The ASU School of Public Affairs is the university partner in the Alliance for Innovation--a member-based network of forward-looking local governments--along with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). The Center for Urban Innovation is ASU’s operational link to the Alliance, and supports the programs and publications of the Alliance by conducting research on emerging practices and the factors that contribute to innovation in local government. The Center has organized the Academic Network for the Alliance consisting of faculty members at universities across the United States and in other countries, and it draws on research from a wide range of disciplines at ASU.
Applicants must demonstrate research and teaching interests in core areas of urban and regional public policy or public administration research, including a demonstrable record of high quality research in leading publications and excellent teaching. Applicants should be effective at securing outside funding to support research and have track record of collaboration with professional associations of local government officials. A Ph.D. degree in public policy, public administration, economics, political science or other related field is required.
Review of applications began on January 16, 2012. Applications will be evaluated each week after January 16, 2012 and continue until positions are filled.
