2012 Higher Education Creativity Conference

Arizona State University - University Design Consortium is partnering with Sichuan University - University Design Institute to host the 2012 Higher Education Creativity Conference. The conference will take place in Chengdu, China from June 11-14, 2012 at the Kehuayuan Hotel. The conference addresses one of the most important topics in higher education today—the need to educate today’s students for the rapid changes they will face in their lifetimes.

The global knowledge economy of the future will be driven by creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, the challenges facing nations around the world will require new approaches. Colleges and universities, therefore, must foster creative approaches for their students and their institutions, yet there has been much less attention to creativity in colleges and universities compared with other sectors of society.

This subject is of special importance to Chinese universities. In April 2011, President Hu Jintao said, “Innovation becomes the main driving force of economic social development, and intellectual innovation becomes the core factor of national competitiveness.” Therefore this conference is much more than an academic discussion—it has the potential to influence the current policy debate in China.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Gerard Puccio, Department Chair and Professor at the International Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State University (USA), a unique academic department that offers the world’s only master’s degree in creativity. Invited speakers include academics and policy leaders from Europe, Australia, North America, and Asia. The goal is an international perspective on creativity and innovation in higher education.
