Alliance for Innovation

Regular members in the Alliance for Innovation are local government organizations, and all employees, elected and appointed officials, and advisory boards are eligible to utilize services. All types and forms of government are eligible for membership in the Alliance for Innovation. Academic institutions with a teaching or research interest in local government and scholars specializing in research on local government management and on innovation and organizational change will also be engaged as participating members. An academic network of scholars involved in local government management research is being formed.  The Alliance for Innovation will develop a research agenda to assist local governments to improve their practices and better deliver services.

The Alliance for Innovation will continue to stress the engagement and networking among members at the regional level that has been the hallmark of IG. The regional directors and advisory boards will continue to be actively involved and guide the Alliance for Innovation.

The Alliance for Innovation creates a high level of ongoing interaction between practitioner and academic spheres. Bob Hart represented the Alliance on a panel at the conference of the National Association of Schools of Public Administration and Public Affairs in October, 2006, and Bob O’Neill will participate in a panel with university researchers at the American Society for Public Administration annual conference in March, 2007. The Transforming Local Government Conference to be held in Bellevue, Washington, June 6-8, will include presentations from Bob Denhardt and Jim Svara from ASU. Furthermore, the Alliance for Innovation will open offices in the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus in January, 2007, and have a close working relationship with the ASU Center for Urban Innovation in the School of Public Affairs. During a transitional period, some activities will still be performed out of the Tampa office as well.
